Random Musings on This Summer Day in Summerville

Happy Sunday… Today, just a collection of random thoughts, notes and notices, plus a look at upcoming events and this week’s State by State adventure in Minnesota!

Thanks, Matt Goldman

Matt stuck around while Emma June passed him more books to autograph for lowcountry readers!

We had a great time with New York Times bestselling author Matt Goldman on Thursday evening. What a delightful author and a wonderful book, Carolina Moonset. We had Matt sign a few in case you didn’t get to visit. Set in the Lowcountry, this is an intriguing tale of of the past and just got a FABULOUS writeup by Pat Conroy Literary Center’s Jonathan Haupt in the Post & Courier (read it HERE! Emmy-winning writer crafts effective lowcountry murder mystery)

Coincidentally, Matt is actually a resident of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, our State of the Week beginning today… DID YOU KNOW? You can CLICK HERE to view all our State by State Picks to date… get traveling (without the fuel costs!)

Main Street Writes – and Writes WELL!

As promised – 1st Monday of the month is tomorrow and Main Street Writes will meet LIVE at the store (but anyone wishing to join via Zoom is still welcome to do so – details on the calendar page!

Main Street Writes writers ROCK…

This past week, Memorial Day to be exact, over a dozen writers still joined in via Zoom despite it being a holiday. Much work was shared, including some provocative pieces in the wake of Uvalde. There were tears, and laughter, and fantastic discussions around the penned thoughts of the gathered crew. Most recently, one of the tribe, Carol Webster (a gifted fiction writer AND poet) shared a piece she’d seen on Facebook, from an anonymous source who definitely needs to keep writing. As Carol so eloquently put it, “I am hearing this story was possibly not written by the mother, but someone wrote it. And that someone is an excellent writer, summoning hellfire and heartbreak to the page.”

I concur, and encourage you to read it, too: CLICK HERE. Thanks, Carol, for sharing this important piece.

Prom Pics at Main Street Reads

No doubt one of our favorite requests is for someone to ask to shoot their prom or graduation or birthday pictures in their favorite bookstore…

We just had to share a beautiful photo of Miss Johnson taken pre-prom this year – brava good lady (and great taste, too!).

Have a celebratory photo in mind? Let us know and we’ll help you make it happen!

And now, a look at what’s coming up at Main Street Reads… You can always visit our Calendar Page HERE for ongoing updates, and scroll to the bottom and subscribe to the calendar so you’ll never miss a big book event.
