Yesterday’s signing with Jack Russell (Fox World) gave us all the thrill of listening in on some incredible conversations about conservation (say that 10 times fast, right?). There’s nothing quite like a book to get even the most introverted of us yakking away about the issues of our times. Conservation, education, kindness to others and to our animal friends…
And today’s book signing and discussion will take the conversation to social justice and some important healing truths. We’re honored to host this signing and book discussion around the new release from Charleston’s Evening Post Books: Ukweli: Searching for Healing Truth.
You’ll get to meet Summerville’s own Herb Frazier as well as contributing authors from the project; come engage in a substantive discussion.
Ukweli is the Swahili word for truth. This book meets this moment in America as a healing truth to overcome the trauma of slavery and the decades of violence that followed it. The personal accounts and insights from forty-five writers and poets begins the conversation about racial bias. Ukweli provides insight in to the struggles Black people have faced as they’ve made substantial contributions to America, and helped to define its soul. It shows a part of American history often overlooked or misunderstood. Inspired by a poetry, lecture, and dialogue series of the same name organized by poet Horace Mungin in 2020 at Charleston’s McLeod Plantation, Evening Post Books released Ukweli in February 2022.
With the signing, we’ll have an open discussion (refreshments served). I hope to see many of you here to encourage this work and this conversation!
