Today’s “Keeping the Lights On” Update!

True confession time: I’ve never been a big fan of sci-fi, and now I know why, ha-ha! Holing up with family there’s definitely been some late nite binge-watching of once surreal movies like Outbreak and Contagion and Terminator.

But like they say, truth is stranger than fiction! Watching and reading the news we can’t help but feel that the communities already infested with corona clusters are speaking to us from the future. Makes me wonder: Will we heed their warnings? Or will we be like all those dumb people in all those dumb books and films, furthering the flimsy plot when we ignore the warnings?

So far, Summerville seems to be heeding the warnings of our fellow less fortunate Americans. We seem to be ahead of the curve. That needs to continue. After all, we’re Summerville Strong – we have the opportunity to show other communities an alternate future!

Which means, don’t get complacent. Continue to keep you and yours safe, and use the resources below to know the stores that are safe for you to enter (so long as you’re also practicing safe shopping!) And of course, if you’re looking for your next great read, absolutely there are browsing options below that will allow you to do that from the comfort of your home base. There’ll be plenty of time to congregate soon enough if we stay smart now.

So here’s another roundup of the “new normal” at Main Street Reads as we respect our social distance while continuing to serve you:

First, as promised, things change and change quickly. On Saturday we WERE offering signed copies of the adorable adult coloring book, The Art of Etiquette. But the author recently traveled back from an infected area of Florida and is self-quarantining in Charleston, WISELY not going out. We have copies of the book delivered back in December, but you’ll have to wait to get ’em signed.

We’re still adding suggested titles to enjoy DAILY on our carefully curated lists at our online ordering page at bookshop.org – We invite you to browse our suggestions or search for any book! And share with us how you enjoy the experience. Here are the current lists we’ve built to amuse:

Have a suggestion for a list we should build? Email us at [email protected]!

You can also view our most popular 2,500 book inventory items IN STOCK at the store (The list will update today by 2 pm with new titles.) The list will continue to update every few days to reflect sales of items, and new inventory arriving. If you need to place an order for pickup or delivery, contact the store at 843-875-5171 OR 843-834-1872. View the in-stock list HERE.

We’ll be back on Sunday to post you on the latest updates and fun resources for you and your families, as well as how you can tune into our upcoming writers group and book club meetings from home!
