Before we get to what’s new and bright on the book and event horizon, I want to throw out a question: What do y’all think of doing a silent reading club, one night and/or morning once a month? And when?
Several booksellers (including some faves in Georgia, Virginia, and New Orleans) have started these for their readers and we like the concept. Here’s how it would work:
- Come in at a designated before/after hours time (i.e. 7:45 a.m. or 6:45 p.m.) We’ll have coffee in the a.m., wine in the evening, and can make arrangements w/Frothy Beard next door (evenings) or Cuppa across the way (mornings) if you want to grab a light bite for yourself.
- The first 15-30 minutes are for greeting/grabbing food/drink, shopping (we will only be open to participants during these events), and finding your reading spot in the store. (We’ll have chairs and nuggets scattered for your vegging pleasure).
- The next HOUR is your silent reading time. Grab a book from us or bring one w/you; whatever you’re already reading or want to dig into.
- After the hour, those who wish to can gather in front and share what they’re reading/loving and socialize. Those who want to continue reading quietly may do so for the final half hour.
That’s all of it – quiet time to get some reading done in the company of fellow book nerds. Enjoy private shopping before/after hours, catch up on your reading, start a new book, or cram in those final chapters before book club; the choice is yours! We’re looking at potentially one a.m./one p.m. event each month.
So…your turn! Tell us when the best time(s) are for you. After we get your input, we’ll begin scheduling, hopefully kicking off in August (so answer now!). CLICK HERE to fill out the quick form or fill it in right here:
We’re Reading and Loving…
Shari: Loving being back in the lowcountry after a quick visit to see our granddaughter and do some light hiking in Yosemite. It was beautiful out there (and cooler!) but happy to be back in Summerville for 4th of July.
Currently reading The Good Ones by Polly Stewart (this month’s Thriller club pick). Looking forward to talking about this one – it had me at small town southern gothic.
Makayla: I’m reading Nothing Like the Movies by Lynn Painter, the stunning sequel to her bestselling novel, Better than the Movies. The story is brimming with raw emotion and organic humor.
What else I’m liking: Okay, y’all – I’m obsessed with the Texas dip from Agave Cantina in Cane Bay. Everyone must try it once in their life. Just sayin’…
Kelley: I’m reading The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. This literary mystery is set at a summer camp in the 1970s, the perfect twisty and atmospheric summer read.
Outside the store: I’m loving the Saturday morning tradition my family and I have started of going out to breakfast and then coming home to play the board game, Trailblazers. It is a super chill puzzle type game, great for nature lovers!
Kristy: I’m really enjoying A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston. It will make you feel all the emotions and it’s a treat for any book lover who just wants to enter their favorite fictional world and meet its characters. Looking forward to checking out more books by this author!
What else I’m liking: Clemson Freshman Orientation and a relaxing family Lake vacation 😄
