A BIG WEEK AHEAD!

We kick off your big week with our Young Reader Book Club at 5:30 on Monday, featuring the third in the Islanders series, The Islanders: Shipwrecked, by Mary Alice Monroe and Angela May. And for our local scribes, Main Street Writes happens via Zoom on Monday at 6:30 pm.

On Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. we’re hosting your Thrill in the ‘Ville thriller book club, discussing The Good Ones by Polly Stewart. And of course Wednesday morning is for Stories on the Square, our weekly storytime.

And as the info-mercials say, “But wait, there’s more!” Because our Stories on the Square will happen again for young readers the next day, on Third Thursday this month. Yep, we’ll have a tent on the square during this week’s THIRD THURSDAY y’all — when downtown Summerville becomes one big neighborhood block party. Even better, this month’s theme kicks off Christmas in July in and around the square. Several shops, including ours, will be celebrating with July specials and sales.

Stop by for treats and deals, and there’ll be crayon packs and coloring page gifts for the littles at our tent on the square.

Silent Reading: Reader Poll Results!

The results of our Silent Nights and Peaceful Mornings are in and after over 100 responses, we’re going for it, beginning in August! The winning times were:

  • The first Tuesday EVENING of each month (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.)
  • The third Tuesday MORNING of each month (7:45 – 9:45 a.m.)

For the first month, we’ll limit participation to 12 for each event. We’ll post a sign-up sheet here in the weeks before and will first invite by email all those who filled out the initial poll.

We’ll have several comfy chairs and air-chairs, and readers are invited to bring their own comfort items as well (pillow, wrap, snacks, etc.) Coffee will be provided for the a.m. meeting and wine for the p.m. meeting. Other food/beverages are on your own (we suggest Cuppa Manna for a morning treat and Frothy Beard for an evening snack). Full details of each event will be in the August calendar of events this week… we’ll see you on Main Street!

What We’re Reading and Loving…

Kelley: I’m reading The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst. This is the best cozy fantasy I’ve ever read! I just want to crawl inside the pages and live there forever!
Loving: We have been trying out container gardening on our porch. This week we finally got to reap some rewards: cucumbers for pickles, squash and tomatoes! I was amazed how much we could grow in a small space and it’s been fun experimenting.

Kristy: I’m also reading The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst. I absolutely love this book: So lovely, so delightful, and the perfect cozy fantasy read!
Loving: Shark Week on Discovery channel. My family enjoys watching this every year.

Makayla: I’m reading Never Lie by Frieda McFadden. I will never hesitate to pick up a book with her name on it!
Loving: The coffee and croissants at Rustic Muffin are to die for!

Hannah: I’m still on the same books. Summers are short for us students so grabbing reading time when I can.
Loving: Going into Summerville local businesses and chatting with the owners and staff 🥰
