So, here’s something I didn’t know: the loss of academic skills that occurs when school is not in session, attributed largely to the lack of reading. Yep, that’s a thing, and Scholastic publishers have unearthed some useful research on the topic that leads to an obvious conclusion – spend some of that summer fun READING! You can read the full report here (it’s fascinating), but more importantly, we can all make sure students continue to enjoy reading through the summer months. Today’s readers will become tomorrow’s leaders!
Enter THREE special events coming your way! The first happens this Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., a virtual “Parents Night” brought to us by Scholastic. We have a display of the featured reads in the bookstore, and some great gift items for parents who participate. Learn more HERE. And, all the books featured will be available inside the store, or via our online shopping (click on the image below!).
We’ll follow that up with a live book signing with author Julie Packett on Saturday. Julie is the author of Science Night and we’re excited about this book and the series to come! (See event details below).
But wait, there’s more!
We’re pleased as punch to now formally announce that on Saturday, June 26th, famed NYT bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe and co-author Angela May will be joining us on Hutchinson Square for an incredible Summer Reading Spectacular featuring their new middle-grade sensation, The Islanders. Learn more about the upcoming event and how to meet these incredible authors and grab signed copies of their books HERE!
We’re taking pre-orders NOW for The Islanders, so let us know via [email protected] how many copies you want to reserve at a VERY special discount!
And, that morning will offer up some time for amazing local middle school students to share their own words with an open-mic session for local students! Stay tuned for details!
