What a month September has been already and we’re only midway through! Tonight, enjoy sweet tea and sweet entertainment around the square, and Saturday (2-8 pm) is the official Sweet Tea Festival in downtown.
But wait, there’s more! Sunday begins our annual Banned Books Week! Come be shocked and amazed at what’s being challenged in schools and libraries this year and dare to read dangerously!
Sweet Tea Saturday
The Sweet Tea Festival is a celebration of the birthplace of sweet tea, right here in Summerville SC. Our Historic Downtown is transformed into a massive open house / street fair with different food trucks, artisanal vendors and entertainment. Of course, there is plenty of sweet tea and you can help select the Tea of the Year by sampling and voting for your favorite!
Enjoy the Fest and Stay for the Downtown
Historic Downtown Summerville is everything you imagine a small town to be. It’s filled with quaint shops, historic buildings, creative boutiques and world-class restaurants. Our local business owners and staff represent true southern hospitality with remarkable customer service and genuine care for all who visit. Everyone feels as if they have been transported to a special place and time.
Come find out why … “it’s sweeter here!”
Banned Books Week

(Sep. 18-24 this year) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. The week spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship.
We’ll have a special display with tons of books that are often surprising, with incentives for banned book purchases, so stop by!
