S’ville Italian Feast Today!

First, we want to see you all at Italian Feast on the square today! It’s going to be an incredibly FUN-FILLED (and food-filled!) day. Experience authentic Italian cuisine, as well as food of all types from the Lowcountry to tempt every taste bud. Sample as you like and also enjoy Italian wine and beer. Enjoy the entertainment of local artists celebrating Italian Culture and Heritage throughout the day, PLUS local talent from the students of Dorchester District 2. The festivities start at 11:00 a.m. and end when the last grape is stomped at 6:00 p.m.

(Hint: Stop by the store for a free Italian treat!)

Next, a BIG thank you for another amazing Banned Books Week. Bringing attention to books being banned and challenged across the country, this week, promoted by booksellers and librarians nationwide, really gets the conversation going. Main Street Reads was no exception – we had some really great discussions (and yes, a few laughs!).

Meanwhile, one of our talented veteran Main Street Writes members, Lee Warren, wrote a poem that –from a writer’s point of view– sums up Banned Books Week perfectly, so we’d love to share:

Incendiary Invitation

Ban my book
Ban my book
Entice the curious
To take a look

What a fine way
To relay
That I have something
Powerful to say

Within the pages
A fire rages
That you can’t put out
With fear and doubt

Ban my book
Ban my book
And you give me
The perfect hook

By the way, if you haven’t checked out some of the incredible local talent, make sure to visit Main Street Writes and please do share links to pieces you enjoy with others…

Thriller Book Club Tuesday!

Raves for the hottest thriller of 2023! “This is wicked fun.” –Publishers Weekly

“Absolutely amazing. Readers are going to flip!” —Lisa Gardner, New York Times bestselling author of ONE STEP TOO FAR

Yep, readers are raving about The Block Party by Jamie Day – and we’ll be talking about why! As always, our book clubs are free and open to all – you bring your thoughts, we’ll bring the treats!

This summer, meet your neighbors. The residents of the exclusive cul-de-sac on Alton Road are entangled in a web of secrets and scandal utterly unknown to the outside world, and even to each other. On the night of the annual Summer block party, there has been a murder. But, who did it and why takes readers back one year earlier, as rivalries and betrayals unfold–discovering that the real danger lies within their own block and nothing–and no one–is ever as it seems…

For more on upcoming events, visit our EVENT PAGE HERE – There’s plenty more to come throughout this month – We’ll see you on Main Street!

Let’s Help Our Reading Neighbors!

Fall Fest is set for Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Timrod Library. This annual celebration of books, food, family, and fun is their biggest fundraiser of the year, and to make it a success they need US! Here are some ways you can help:
1. Set up and cleanup. Before Fall Fest the Timrod needs strong volunteers at the Library at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 to help set up tables and tents on the front lawn and to carry books out to the tents. After Fall Fest is over (Saturday at 2 p.m.) we will need help taking down tents and tables and cleaning up in and around the Library.

  • To volunteer for set up or clean up, please contact Shari Stauch: 843-834-1872 (call or text) or [email protected]

2. Provide casseroles and baked goods. Food items are a big hit at Fall Fest each year.

  • If you can provide casseroles or baked goods, contact PJ Pratt at the Timrod Library 843-871-4600 (no texts) or [email protected]

3. Buy tickets for the 50/50 cash prize drawing. Last year’s purse was over $500!  Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Available NOW through Nov. 4 at the Library.
4. Come and shop on Nov. 4! As always, Fall Fest features our BIG book sale, with hardcovers, paperbacks, children’s books, plus rare, antique, and vintage editions. Start shopping and preparing for the holidays with food, book-themed and hostess gift items, and sweetgrass baskets.
5. Donate! Can’t cook? No time to volunteer or shop? Please consider a monetary donation via phone by calling the Timrod Library at 843-871-4600.

Whatever you choose and whatever you can contribute, please know how much your support matters to the success of Fall Fest and the Timrod Library.
