October is the New December

Okay, it’s only mid-October, but honestly, it’s time to get cracking on those holiday shopping lists! October really is the new December and we can help you get through it with flying colors. Watch for our catalogs and recommendations, or ask us at the store. We’re happy to help you choose the right lasting gift for all the special folks on your list!

Young Readers Rock!

Thanks to all who participated in the Spann Spirit Week! With your help, we were able to raise $275 for the Spann Elementary School PTA. We wish them continued success through their Read-A-Thon this week.

While we’re on the subject of young readers… have y’all heard of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library? From birth to five years, a child’s exposure to reading cultivates lifelong learning habits. However, not every child or every family has access to age-appropriate books. Singer-songwriter Dolly Parton created her Imagination Library to bridge that gap.

The Imagination Library, aided by local affiliates like our local Timrod Library, identifies children in communities and mails age-appropriate books directly to individual children each month. A child enrolled in the program at birth will have a personal library of sixty books by their fifth birthday!

As an Imagination Library Affiliate, the Timrod Library pays for shipping costs for books sent to children in our community. Only $150 covers the shipping for a child to receive a book every month for five years, just $30 each year. The books are provided by Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Main Street Reads has proudly contributed $150 to this worthy cause and we look forward to Timrod Library achieving its goal of providing this service 250 eligible future readers in our own community. You can make a lifelong impact on a child’s life with a donation of any amount… Learn how HERE!

And all donations are 100% tax-deductible, making this a lovely gift to donate in someone’s name. Think about pairing this with a book and/or gift certificate (we can help you choose) and offer up a holiday gift this year that keeps on giving in great ways!
