From writing workshops to book club discussions, Meet the Author, silent reading nights and even a midnight launch, January is packed with opportunities to dive into your literary passions.

🎉 Monday Main Street Writes – January 6, 13, and beyond!
Every Monday evening at 6:30 pm, join our growing community of writers to share, learn, and hone your craft. Whether you’re penning the next great novel or journaling for fun, this group is for you! This week’s event happens LIVE at the store; the remaining Monday night events this month take place on Zoom.

📖 Silent Nights Quiet Reading Club – January 7 & 8
Yep – NOT a typo – the First Tuesday and Second Wednesday of this month happen to fall on consecutive days – so let’s do it! Immerse yourself in a peaceful reading experience. Reserve your spot and enjoy uninterrupted time with your favorite book in the cozy ambiance of Main Street Reads. 🌟 Wednesday Stories on the Square – January 8, 15, 22, 29
Bring the little ones to Hutchinson Square for a magical storytime every Wednesday at 9:30 am. Perfect for kids of all ages!

🔍 Thrill in the ’Ville Thriller Book Club – January 14
Our January pick, If I Go Missing, promises an engaging discussion with free wine and appetizers. Don’t miss this gripping thriller at 6:30 pm.

📚 Adventures in Reading Kids Book Club – January 20
Our kid-friendly club returns at 5:30 pm with a new adventure to dive into! The featured book is 10% off for participants.

💋 Meet the Author! Nadine Thiess Signing – January 21
Join us at 5:00 pm for a special signing of Starcrossed Nocturne, just before our January Kiss & Tell Romance Book Club discussion of The Playboy at 6:30 pm.

📚 Kiss & Tell Romance Book Club– January 21
For billionaire romance fans, we’ll be chatting about The Playboy. As always, our book clubs are free, welcoming, and paired with discounts on the featured books!

We’re beyond excited to announce the first Summerville Book Festival – a joint effort between Summerville DREAM, the Flowertown Players theater, Main Street Reads, the Timrod Library and the Summerville Journal Scene!

Unleash your creativity: Enter the “Why Summerville” writing competition

Are you a writer with a story to tell, a poet with inspiring words or an essayist with a powerful message to share? The Summerville Journal Scene is thrilled to announce an exciting writing competition in partnership with Summerville DREAM and Main Street Reads. This is your chance to showcase your talent and be celebrated in the heart of Summerville’s literary community.

Competition Details

The theme is “Why Summerville,” and the winning works will be shared with the community in various ways, including an appearance in The Summerville Journal Scene.

A panel of literary enthusiasts and local influencers will judge submissions. The winners will be revealed in a special ceremony during the Summerville Book Festival on Feb. 15, 2025.

This competition is more than just a chance to win — it’s an opportunity to share your voice, connect with fellow writers and gain recognition for your creative work. Winners in each category will receive prizes, be featured in The Summerville Journal Scene and enjoy a moment in the spotlight at the festival.
