Banned Books Week Continues!

Midway through one of our favorite weeks at Main Street Reads each year: Banned Books Week. We’ve joined bookstores and libraries across the nation to highlight books that are being banned or challenged in schools and libraries.

At the store, we feature over 100 banned books titles each year, including the most recent challenged books. Enjoy the crime scene caution tape and ask your book adventure guides at the store why a book has been banned or challenged – the answers may surprise you!

Grab any banned book and get 10% off. Ditto our online Bookshop at https://bookshop.org/shop/mainstreetreads – where you can celebrate Banned Books Week (Sept. 18—24) by exploring some of the most challenged books in the U.S., from The Bluest Eye to Maus.

You can join the kick-off for Banned Books Week on Monday Sept. 19th with a special Instagram Live discussion with author George M. Johnson and Little District Bookstore owner Patrick Kern.

Also, mark your calendars for NEXT Saturday when we welcome Judi Lauren with her new children’s book, Jordie & Joey Fell From the Sky, AND Oktoberfest happens on Hutchinson Square!

Coming Soon…

October Thriller: They Come at Knight

What a fantastic time we had hosting Yasmin Angoe in conversation with Dorothy St. James on Tuesday night. Two fantastic authors with an array of fantastic reads. Tuesday marked the launch of They Come at Knight – which will be next month’s Thrill in the ‘Ville book club pick.

Yasmin plans to join us for that discussion, and you can grab signed copies of the book at the store (10% off, book club price) and, if you haven’t already, get them personalized that night!

Also – watch the New York Times for a review of Yasmin’s new novel on September 25th!

October: The Book Haters Book Club

All it takes is the right book to turn a Book Hater into a Book Lover…

Next month’s “Living Large” book club on October 18th (third Tuesday of the month) will be chatting about one of my favorite reads this year, The Book Haters Book Club. Filled with humor, family hijinks and actual reading recommendations, The Book Haters’ Book Club is the ideal feel-good read. It’s a love letter to everyday heroes–those booksellers and librarians dedicated to putting the right books in the right hands every day.. A light, fun fall read for all. Grab it at the store at the 10% off book club price!

“This sparkling novel starts with high energy and unique characters that move from one surprise to another.” –Ann Garvin, USA TODAY bestselling author
