Spirit Week for Our Four-Legged Friends In Need
November 19, 2023 @ 10:00 am – November 25, 2023 @ 6:00 pm
Perhaps one of the most valuable, yet undervalued members of our community is Dorchester Paws. This is Summerville’s non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to providing shelter, care, and support for homeless animals in Dorchester County. As owners of many rescue animals ourselves, we can tell you they’re doing an incredible job with the very limited resources at their disposal.
But now they need OUR help. Due to constant flooding, evacuations (see right), and too many animals in crisis, Dorchester Paws requires a larger, higher-ground facility. The organization is now raising funds, assisted by a $1.5 million state grant, to construct a state-of-the-art shelter, furthering the organization’s mission to provide the highest level of care and support for homeless animals and the community.
The grant, provided by the State of South Carolina, represents a significant investment in the welfare of animals and the community as a whole. It’s a crucial start, but more is needed.
The new animal shelter, (plan shown above) which will be a cornerstone of Dorchester Paws’ operations, will not only benefit the animals under their care but also offer various services and resources to the residents of Dorchester County.
The grant will support private funding efforts and that’s where WE all come in. Lots of small donations will make up the bulk of the funding needed, so we’re jumping in for a Spirit Week in honor of our four-legged friends. A percentage of ALL our sales, from Sunday, November 19th, through Small Business Saturday, November 25th, will go directly to Dorchester Paws.
In addition, we’ll have a donation box in the store that will be up until the end of the month, when we’ll present a grand total to Dorchester Paws. We encourage you to give of yourselves, and in honor of loved people and pets, to help this very worthy cause.
FYI: The new animal shelter will be equipped with modern facilities to provide comfort, care, and support to the animals awaiting adoption. It will feature expanded kennel space, a public spay & neuter clinic, a dedicated adoption center, and educational resources to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership.
Dorchester Paws will be working closely with the State of South Carolina and our local community to ensure that the new shelter meets the highest standards of animal care and welfare. The organization is excited about the positive impact this new facility will have on the lives of animals and the Dorchester County community.
Thanks on behalf of Dorchester Paws for your support – let’s show ’em readers DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
