SUMMARY:Booksigning: Local Author Matt Loveland with The Artist: Faith\, Science and the Rest of Us
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating chat and Meet the Author event with local author Matt Loveland\, and get a signed copy of his new release: The Artist: Faith\, Science\, and the Rest of Us. \nAbout the Book:\nYou matter because you were made.Created\, on purpose\, in the very image of God. And that’s not just a slogan. That’s something author Matt Loveland set out to prove. You believe the world was created. At least\, statistically you do. According to a 2018-2019 PEW Research poll\, 96% of Americans believe in a higher power. But whether it’s parents\, school\, or the media\, 100% of us are taught from an early age that faith is the trade of the superstitious; that science and Atheism are one in the same. \nMeet Matt:\nMatt Loveland came to faith in Christ because he was turned off by the irrationality of Atheism; he was drawn in by the logic and reason of God. In The Artist: Faith\, Science\, and the Rest of Us\, he takes readers along his journey to discover a surprisingly biblical truth that the majority of Christians believe and at the same time feel they lack the tools to express: that God guided our evolution. On purpose\, and for a reason: because He loves us. And He loves you.

SUMMARY:Reader Meet Writer: Love at First with Kate Clayborn (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:“The most delightful cast of characters I’ve met in ages…a modern romance masterpiece.“ —New York Times bestseller Christina Lauren\n\n\nFrom Kate Clayborn\, the acclaimed author of Love Lettering\, comes a sparkling\, tender novel\, Love At First about bickering neighbors\, surprise reunions\, and the mysterious power of love… \nSixteen years ago\, a teenaged Will Sterling saw—or rather\, heard—the girl of his dreams. Standing beneath an apartment building balcony\, he shared a perfect moment with a lovely\, warm-voiced stranger. It’s a memory that’s never faded\, though he’s put so much of his past behind him. Now an unexpected inheritance has brought Will back to that same address\, where he plans to offload his new property and get back to his regular life as an overworked doctor. Instead\, he encounters a woman\, two balconies above\, who’s uncannily familiar… \nNo matter how surprised Nora Clarke is by her reaction to handsome\, curious Will\, or the whispered pre-dawn conversations they share\, she won’t let his plans ruin her quirky\, close-knit building. Bound by her loyalty to her adored grandmother\, she sets out to foil his efforts with a little light sabotage. But beneath the surface of their feud is an undeniable connection. A balcony\, a star-crossed couple\, a fateful meeting—maybe it’s the kind of story that can’t work out in the end. Or maybe\, it’s the perfect second chance… \nDouble RITA® nominee Kate Clayborn lives in Virginia\, where she spends her days reading and talking about all kinds of great books. Kate loves to hear from and connect with readers—follow her on Twitter\, on Instagram\, and on Facebook. Visit her at www.kateclayborn.com to sign up for her newsletter.

SUMMARY:Reader Meet Writer - Economy Hall: The Hidden History of a Free Black Brotherhood by Fatima Shaik (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Email mainstreetreads@gmail.com to join us for this important discussion of Economy Hall with author Fatima Shaik! Free to Main Street Reads readers:\n\n\nIt is impossible to imagine New Orleans\, and by extension American history\, without the vibrant and singular Creole culture. In the face of an oppressive white society\, members of the Société d’Economie et d’Assistance Mutuelle built a community and held it together through the era of slavery\, the Civil War\, Reconstruction\, and Jim Crow terrorism. Economy Hall: The Hidden History of a Free Black Brotherhood follows Ludger Boguille\, his family\, and friends through landmark events—from the Haitian Revolution to the birth of jazz—that shaped New Orleans and the United States. \nThe story begins with the author’s father rescuing a century’s worth of handwritten journals\, in French\, from a trash hauler’s pickup truck. From the journals’ pages emerged one of the most important multiethnic\, intellectual communities in the US South: educators\, world-traveling merchants\, soldiers\, tradesmen\, and poets. Although Louisiana law classified them as men of color\, Negroes\, and Blacks\, the Economie brothers rejected racism and colorism to fight for suffrage and education rights for all. \nA descendant of the Economie’s community\, author Fatima Shaik has constructed a meticulously detailed nonfiction narrative that reads like an epic novel. \n\n\nFATIMA SHAIK\, a former professor and journalist\, is a trustee of PEN America and author of six previous short story collections and young adult novels. Economy Hall is her first nonfiction work.

SUMMARY:Reader Meet Writer: The Fortunate Ones with Ed Tarkington (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging discussion with author Ed Tarkington. Email us at mainstreetreads@gmail.com for your free link to attend this special virtual event!\n \nA Winter 2021 Read This Next Title! at The Southern Bookseller Review \n“The Fortunate Ones feels like a fresh and remarkably sure-footed take on The Great Gatsby\, examining the complex costs of attempting to transcend or exchange your given class for a more gilded one. Tarkington’s understanding of the human heart and mind is deep\, wise\, and uncommonly empathetic. As a novelist\, he is the real deal. I can’t wait to see this story reach a wide audience\, and to see what he does next.” —Paula McLain\, author of The Paris Wife \nWhen Charlie Boykin was young\, he thought his life with his single mother on the working-class side of Nashville was perfectly fine. But when his mother arranges for him to be admitted as a scholarship student to an elite private school\, he is suddenly introduced to what the world can feel like to someone cushioned by money. That world\, he discovers\, is an almost irresistible place where one can bend—and break—rules and still end up untarnished. As he gets drawn into a friendship with a charismatic upperclassman\, Archer Creigh\, and an affluent family that treats him like an adopted son\, Charlie quickly adapts to life in the upper echelons of Nashville society. Under their charming and alcohol-soaked spell\, how can he not relax and enjoy it all—the lack of anxiety over money\, the easy summers spent poolside at perfectly appointed mansions\, the lavish parties\, the freedom to make mistakes knowing that everything can be glossed over or fixed? \nBut over time\, Charlie is increasingly pulled into covering for Archer’s constant deceits and his casual bigotry. At what point will the attraction of wealth and prestige wear off enough for Charlie to take a stand—and will he? \nThe Fortunate Ones is an immersive\, elegantly written story that conveys both the seductiveness of this world and the corruption of the people who see their ascent to the top as their birthright. \nEd Tarkington’s debut novel Only Love Can Break Your Heart was an ABA Indies Introduce selection\, an Indie Next pick\, a Book of the Month Club Main Selection\, and a Southern Independent Booksellers Association bestseller. A regular contributor to Chapter16.org\, his articles\, essays\, and stories have appeared in a variety of publications including the Nashville Scene\, Memphis Commercial Appeal\, Knoxville News-Sentinel\, and Lit Hub. He lives in Nashville\, Tennessee.

SUMMARY:Reader Meet Writer: Race Against Time with Jerry Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:Join us via Zoom for another fabulous Reader Meet Writer event (email us for your personal link to attend this event free from Main Street Reads): \n“For almost two decades\, investigative journalist Jerry Mitchell doggedly pursued the Klansmen responsible for some of the most notorious murders of the civil rights movement. This book is his amazing story. Thanks to him\, and to courageous prosecutors\, witnesses\, and FBI agents\, justice finally prevailed.” —John Grisham\, author of The Guardians \nOn June 21\, 1964\, more than twenty Klansmen murdered three civil rights workers. The killings\, in what would become known as the “Mississippi Burning” case\, were among the most brazen acts of violence during the civil rights movement. And even though the killers’ identities\, including the sheriff’s deputy\, were an open secret\, no one was charged with murder in the months and years that followed. \nIt took forty-one years before the mastermind was brought to trial and finally convicted for the three innocent lives he took. If there is one man who helped pave the way for justice\, it is investigative reporter Jerry Mitchell. \nIn Race Against Time\, Mitchell takes readers on the twisting\, pulse-racing road that led to the reopening of four of the most infamous killings from the days of the civil rights movement\, decades after the fact. His work played a central role in bringing killers to justice for the assassination of Medgar Evers\, the firebombing of Vernon Dahmer\, the 16th Street Church bombing in Birmingham and the Mississippi Burning case. Mitchell reveals how he unearthed secret documents\, found long-lost suspects and witnesses\, building up evidence strong enough to take on the Klan. He takes us into every harrowing scene along the way\, as when Mitchell goes into the lion’s den\, meeting one-on-one with the very murderers he is seeking to catch. His efforts have put four leading Klansmen behind bars\, years after they thought they had gotten away with murder. \nRace Against Time is an astonishing\, courageous story capturing a historic race for justice\, as the past is uncovered\, clue by clue\, and long-ignored evils are brought into the light. This is a landmark book and essential reading for all Americans. \nJerry Mitchell has been a reporter in Mississippi since 1986. A winner of more than 30 national awards\, Mitchell is the founder of the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting. The nonprofit is continuing his work of exposing injustices and raising up a new generation of investigative reporters.

SUMMARY:Reader Meet Writer: Wilmington's Lie with David Zucchino
DESCRIPTION:Email us for your personal link to attend this event FREE! \nFrom Pulitzer Prize-winner David Zucchino comes a searing account of the Wilmington riot and coup of 1898\, an extraordinary event unknown to most Americans. \nBy the 1890s\, Wilmington was North Carolina’s largest city and a shining example of a mixed-race community. It was a bustling port city with a burgeoning African American middle class and a Fusionist government of Republicans and Populists that included black aldermen\, police officers and magistrates. There were successful black-owned businesses and an African American newspaper\, The Record. But across the state—and the South—white supremacist Democrats were working to reverse the advances made by former slaves and their progeny. \nIn 1898\, in response to a speech calling for white men to rise to the defense of Southern womanhood against the supposed threat of black predators\, Alexander Manly\, the outspoken young Record editor\, wrote that some relationships between black men and white women were consensual. His editorial ignited outrage across the South\, with calls to lynch Manly. \nBut North Carolina’s white supremacist Democrats had a different strategy. They were plotting to take back the state legislature in November “by the ballot or bullet or both\,” and then use the Manly editorial to trigger a “race riot” to overthrow Wilmington’s multi-racial government. Led by prominent citizens including Josephus Daniels\, publisher of the state’s largest newspaper\, and former Confederate Colonel Alfred Moore Waddell\, white supremacists rolled out a carefully orchestrated campaign that included raucous rallies\, race-baiting editorials and newspaper cartoons\, and sensational\, fabricated news stories. \nWith intimidation and violence\, the Democrats suppressed the black vote and stuffed ballot boxes (or threw them out)\, to win control of the state legislature on November eighth. Two days later\, more than 2\,000 heavily armed Red Shirts swarmed through Wilmington\, torching the Record office\, terrorizing women and children\, and shooting at least sixty black men dead in the streets. The rioters forced city officials to resign at gunpoint and replaced them with mob leaders. Prominent blacks—and sympathetic whites—were banished. Hundreds of terrified black families took refuge in surrounding swamps and forests. \nThis brutal insurrection is a rare instance of a violent overthrow of an elected government in the U.S. It halted gains made by blacks and restored racism as official government policy\, cementing white rule for another half century. It was not a “race riot\,” as the events of November 1898 came to be known\, but rather a racially motivated rebellion launched by white supremacists. \nIn Wilmington’s Lie\, Pulitzer Prize-winner David Zucchino uses contemporary newspaper accounts\, diaries\, letters and official communications to create a gripping and compelling narrative that weaves together individual stories of hate and fear and brutality. This is a dramatic and definitive account of a remarkable but forgotten chapter of American history. \nDavid Zucchino is a contributing writer for The New York Times. He has covered wars and civil conflicts in more than three dozen countries. Zucchino was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his dispatches from apartheid South Africa and is a four-time Pulitzer Prize finalist for his reporting from Iraq\, Lebanon\, Africa\, and inner-city Philadelphia. He is the author of Thunder Run and Myth of the Welfare Queen.

SUMMARY:Reader Meet Writer: The Uncollected Stories of Allan Gurganus
DESCRIPTION:Email us for your personal link to attend this event FREE! \nOne of “the best writers of our time” (Ann Patchett) offers this hilarious yet haunting cycle of stories—all previously uncollected. \nSince the explosive publication of Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All\, Allan Gurganus has dazzled readers as “the most technically gifted and morally responsive writer of his generation” (John Cheever). He has been praised as “one of America’s preeminent novelists\, our prime conductor of electric sentences” (William Giraldi). Above all\, Allan Gurganus is a seriously funny writer\, an expert at evoking humor\, especially in our troubled times. \nNow he offers nine classic tales—never before between covers. They attest to his mastery of the short story and the growing depth of his genius.? Offering characters antic and tragic\, Gurganus charts the human condition—masked and unmasked—as we live it now. “Once upon a time” collides with the everyday. We meet a mortician whose dedication to his departed clients exceeds all legal limits. We encounter a seaside couple fighting to save their family dog from Maine’s fierce undertow. A virginal seventy-eight-year-old grammar school librarian has her sole erotic experience with a polyamorous snake farmer. A vicious tornado sends twin boys aloft\, leaving only one of them alive. And\, in an eerily prescient story\, cholera strikes a rural village in 1849 and citizens come to blame their doomed young doctor who saved hundreds. \nThese meticulously crafted parables recall William Faulkner’s scope and Flannery O’Connor’s corrosive wit. Imbuing each story with charged drama\, Gurganus\, a sublime ventriloquist\, again proves himself among our funniest writers and our wisest. \nAllan Gurganus is widely translated\, a Guggenheim Fellow\, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Adaptations of his fiction have earned four Emmys\, and his stories have been appearing in The New Yorker since 1974. He lives in a small town in North Carolina.

SUMMARY:Booksigning: Signe Pike with The Forgotten Kingdom!
DESCRIPTION:We’re super excited to have the amazing Signe Pike grace Main Street Reads on Sunday\, December 6th for a special event and book signing. Her best-selling books have been making waves. The Forgotten Kingdom is the second in a trilogy; we’ll also have the first in the trilogy\, The Lost Queen\, on hand to be personally signed. \nRefreshments will be served\, including a special brew of spiced cider to set the mood. Let us know if you plan to attend so we set aside the book(s) for you as this event is expected to sell out. \nThe Forgotten Kingdom: AD 573. Imprisoned in her chamber\, Languoreth awaits news in torment. Her husband and son have ridden off to war against her brother\, Lailoken. She doesn’t yet know that her young daughter\, Angharad\, who was training with Lailoken to become a Wisdom Keeper\, has been lost in the chaos. As one of the bloodiest battles of early medieval Scottish history abandons its survivors to the wilds of Scotland\, Lailoken and his men must flee to exile in the mountains of the Lowlands\, while nine year-old Angharad must summon all Lailoken has taught her to follow her own destiny through the mysterious\, mystical land of the Picts. \nIn the aftermath of the battle\, old political alliances unravel\, opening the way for the ambitious adherents of the new religion: Christianity. Lailoken is half-mad with battle sickness\, and Languoreth must hide her allegiance to the Old Way to survive her marriage to the next Christian king of Strathclyde. Worst yet\, the new King of the Angles is bent on expanding his kingdom at any cost. Now the exiled Lailoken\, with the help of a young warrior named Artur\, may be the only man who can bring the warring factions together to defeat the encroaching Angles. But to do so\, he must claim the role that will forever transform him. He must become the man known to history as “Myrddin.” \n“Intrigue\, rivalry\, and magic among the mists of old Britain–The Forgotten Kingdom is an enchantment of a read! (Kate Quinn\, New York Times bestselling author). \nTake a look at the book trailers below and learn more at https://www.signepike.com/. \n \n \nSigne Pike was born in Ithaca\, NY\, and graduated from Cornell University with her Bachelor of Science in Communication. She worked as an acquisitions editor at Random House and then Penguin\, before leaving to write her first book\, Faery Tale: One Woman’s Search for Enchantment in a Modern World. Pike has spent the past ten years researching and writing about Celtic history\, myth\, folklore and tradition. Her love of history\, the great outdoors\, early medieval and ancient archeology\, and her dedication to historical accuracy has made her social media feeds an informative delight to her readers. \nSigne teaches seminars and workshops internationally on writing and publishing\, as well as on folklore and tradition. Her writing has been published by Salon\, Charleston City Paper\, Book Riot and NPR.org.

SUMMARY:Booksigning: Christina Sinisi with Christmas on Ocracoke
DESCRIPTION:Join us on December 5th as we kick off a big holiday month with Christina Sinisi’s Christmas on Ocracoke. You may remember Christina signing with us last year for her first novel\, Christmas Confusion! Both will be available to be signed… a perfect Christmas gift! \nReeling from the upheaval of a failed marriage\, Annie Hanahan is desperate for a new start—and when she inherits a cottage on Ocracoke Island\, she may finally get it. Without a second thought\, she packs up and leaves everything behind: her first name\, her job\, and her ex-husband\, because more than anything\, she wants to get her son away from his father’s partying and neglectful ways. \nBut when she arrives in the Outer Banks\, she finds the island—and her promised refuge—ravaged by Hurricane Dorian. When their parents died in a tragic car accident\, Trey Kingsley dropped out of college to raise his sister. Now that she’s grown and moved away\, it’s his turn to find a life of his own. As a contractor who has given so much of his time to helping Ocracoke recover from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian\, it surprises no one when he offers to help the beautiful newcomer\, but something is holding her back. \nLife keeps throwing them together\, though\, or perhaps God’s hand is giving them a nudge. Will a little bit of divine intervention be enough for a Merry Christmas on Ocracoke? \nDon’t have Christmas Confusion yet? Grab ’em both! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Reader Meet Writer: Ingram presents #BlackVoices Sponsored by HarperCollins!
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE register for this special event\, including these authors and books: \nAn electrifying first novel from a riveting new voice in American fiction (George Saunders): A young woman returns to her childhood home in the American South and uncovers secrets about her father’s life and death \nBillie James’ inheritance isn’t much: a little money and a shack in the Mississippi Delta. The house once belonged to her father\, a renowned black poet who died unexpectedly when Billie was four years old. Though Billie was there when the accident happened\, she has no memory of that day–and she hasn’t been back to the South since. \nThirty years later\, Billie returns but her father’s home is unnervingly secluded: her only neighbors are the McGees\, the family whose history has been entangled with hers since the days of slavery. As Billie encounters the locals\, she hears a strange rumor: that she herself went missing on the day her father died. As the mystery intensifies\, she finds out that this forgotten piece of her past could put her in danger. \nInventive\, gritty\, and openhearted\, The Gone Dead is an astonishing debut novel about race\, justice\, and memory that lays bare the long-concealed wounds of a family and a country. —Publishers Weekly \n\nIn the tradition of Notorious RBG\, a lively\, beautifully designed\, full-color illustrated celebration of the life\, wisdom\, wit\, legacy\, and fearless style of iconic American Congresswoman Maxine Waters. \n“Let me just say this: I’m a strong black woman\, and I cannot be intimidated. I cannot be undermined. I cannot be thought to be afraid of Bill O’Reilly or anyone.”–Maxine Waters \nTo millions nationwide\, Congresswoman Maxine Waters is a hero of the resistance and an icon\, serving eye rolls\, withering looks\, and sharp retorts to any who dare waste her time on nonsense. But behind the Auntie Maxine meme is a seasoned public servant and she’s not here to play. Throughout her forty years in public service and eighty years on earth\, U.S. Representative for California’s 43rd district has been a role model\, a crusader for justice\, a game-changer\, a trailblazer\, and an advocate for the marginalized who has long defied her critics\, including her most vocal detractor\, Donald J. Trump. And she’s just getting started. \nFrom her anti-apartheid work and support of affirmative action to her passionate opposition to the Iraq War and calls to hold Trump to account\, you can count on Auntie Maxine to speak truth to power and do it with grace and\, sometimes\, sass. As ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee and one of the most powerful black women in America\, she is the strong\, ethical voice the country has always needed\, especially right now. \nReclaiming Her Time pays tribute to all things Maxine Waters\, from growing up in St. Louis “too skinny” and “too black\,” to taking on Wall Street during the financial crisis and coming out on top in her legendary showdowns with Trump and his cronies. Featuring inspiring highlights from her personal life and political career\, beloved memes\, and testimonies from her many friends and fans\, Reclaiming Her Time is a funny\, warm\, and admiring portrait of a champion who refuses to stay silent in the face of corruption and injustice; a powerful woman who is an inspiration to us all. \n\n“There was no greater friend to the poor\, to the lost\, to the left out\, and to the left behind. If you want to understand this great man\, read his historic\, important book and learn the lessons and values from his ‘moral voice crying in the wilderness’ on behalf of our American democracy.” –Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) \nKnown for his poise\, intellect\, and influence until his death in October 2019\, Elijah Cummings was one of the most respected figures in contemporary politics\, a politician who held fast to his beliefs but was not afraid to reach across the aisle in the name of friendship and progress. Since his earliest days in government through his time as a representative and chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee\, he proved his abilities as a politician who could operate at the highest levels of democracy\, serving the people of Baltimore and illustrating the importance of working with the underdog. \nYet in his final years of life\, Cummings recognized that democracy was the underdog. We’re Better Than This draws from Cummings’s own life to show the formative moments that prepared him for the disturbing first years of the Trump presidency and spurred him to hold the administration accountable for their actions. Weaving together the urgent drama of modern-day politics and character-defining stories from his past\, Cummings offers a never-before-told perspective on how his personal history\, coming of age in South Baltimore\, laid the foundation of a life spent fighting for justice. He goes behind the scenes with the House Democratic leadership\, offering an eye-opening chronicle of the grim realities of holding the Trump administration to account. Detailing this moment of unprecedented obstructionism by both the president and Republicans\, Cummings presents a vital defense of how government oversight defines our collective trust\, examining the dangerous precedent for both parties that exists if the executive branch remains above public scrutiny. \nPart memoir\, part call to action\, We’re Better Than This is the story of our modern-day democracy and the threats that we all must face together\, as well as a retrospective on the life and career of one of our country’s most inspirational politicians. As we approach another test of our democracy\, the next race for the White House\, We’re Better Than This reminds people that in this country we don’t elect kings\, and we cannot afford four more years of this false one. \n\n“The Kindest Lie is a deep dive into how we define family\, what it means to be a mother\, what secrets we owe to those we love\, and what it means to grow up Black. This beautifully crafted debut will keep you asking these questions and more.” –Jodi Picoult\, New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Two Ways \nThe Kindest Lie examines the heartbreaking divide between Black and white communities and plumbs the emotional depths of the struggles faced by ordinary Americans in the wake of the financial crisis\, perfectly capturing the profound racial injustices and class inequalities roiling society. \nA promise could betray you. \nIt’s 2008\, and the inauguration of President Barack Obama ushers in a new kind of hope. In Chicago\, Ruth Tuttle\, an Ivy-League educated Black engineer\, is married to a kind and successful man. He’s eager to start a family\, but Ruth is uncertain. She has never gotten over the baby she gave birth to–and was forced to leave behind–when she was a teenager. She had promised her family she’d never look back\, but Ruth knows that to move forward\, she must make peace with the past. \nReturning home\, Ruth discovers the Indiana factory town of her youth is plagued by unemployment\, racism\, and despair. As she begins digging into the past\, she unexpectedly befriends Midnight\, a young white boy who is also adrift and looking for connection. Just as Ruth is about to uncover a burning secret her family desperately wants to keep hidden\, a traumatic incident strains the town’s already searing racial tensions\, sending Ruth and Midnight on a collision course that could upend both their lives. \nThe Kindest Lie examines the heartbreaking divide between Black and white communities and plumbs the emotional depths of the struggles faced by ordinary Americans in the wake of the financial crisis. Capturing the profound racial injustices and class inequalities roiling society\, Nancy Johnson’s debut novel offers an unflinching view of motherhood in contemporary America and the never-ending quest to achieve the American Dream.

DESCRIPTION:Join us live or via Zoom for an engaging discussion about the historical fiction hit Trouble the Water by Rebecca Dwight Bruff! \n“Before this decisive night\, I’d not fully appreciated the subtle line between inspiration and insanity. But now\, with all our lives at risk\, I found myself navigating that most perilous edge…” \nInspired by the life of an unsung American hero and slave\, Trouble the Water navigates the rich tributaries of courage\, betrayal\, and redemption. SUMMARY:Living Large Bookclub: November Pick - Caste
DESCRIPTION:Join us November 17th live or via Zoom (details below) when our “Living Large” book club discusses the best-selling book Caste. \nNEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER – OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK – The Pulitzer Prize-winning\, bestselling author of The Warmth of Other Suns examines the unspoken caste system that has shaped America and shows how our lives today are still defined by a hierarchy of human divisions. \nLONGLISTED FOR THE NATIONAL BOOK AWARD – “An instant American classic.”–Dwight Garner\, The New York Times \n“As we go about our daily lives\, caste is the wordless usher in a darkened theater\, flashlight cast down in the aisles\, guiding us to our assigned seats for a performance. The hierarchy of caste is not about feelings or morality. It is about power–which groups have it and which do not.” \nIn this brilliant book\, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores\, through an immersive\, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people\, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system\, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. \nBeyond race\, class\, or other factors\, there is a powerful caste system that influences people. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/84550929622?pwd=YW15MjdxY2JkZTFEUFlzZEJZZ3NYdz09 \nMeeting ID: 845 5092 9622\nPasscode: 111720
